Trump Holds Off the Record Meeting with the Press
/Donald Trump decided to invite the crooked, disgusting, lying media over to Trump Tower to have an off the record meeting.
CNN media critic Brian Stelter covered the story for his newsletter, saying Monday afternoon's meeting between Donald Trump and representatives from NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and Fox News was off the record.
There was "real progress made" on the subject of media access to Trump and the administration, according to one of the sources. We'll go out on a limb and say that Stelter's "source" works for CNN.
A source tells the NY Post that Trump went off on the media and particularly CNN. “Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said ‘I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed.’ ”
The Post writes, “Trump kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars. He called out Jeff Zucker by name and said everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was [a] network of liars,” the source said.
“Trump didn’t say [NBC reporter] Katy Tur by name, but talked about an NBC female correspondent who got it wrong, then he referred to a horrible network correspondent who cried when Hillary lost who hosted a debate – which was Martha Raddatz who was also in the room.”
Here's who attended the off the record meeting, NBC's Chuck Todd, Lester Holt, Deborah Turness, Phil Griffin... CNN's Jeff Zucker, Wolf Blitzer and Erin Burnett... CBS's Norah O'Donnell, Charlie Rose, John Dickerson, Gayle King, Chris Isham... ABC's James Goldston, George Stephanopoulos, David Muir, Martha Raddatz... Fox's Bill Shine, Jay Wallace, Suzanne Scott, Jack Abernethy.
FTVLive's take: Off the record meetings with the President have happened many times in the past. As for the President-elect it is not as common.
Going off the record with Trump is not likely a wise move. You can expect Trump to try and have more meetings off the record with the media.
The media dropped the ball covering this election and then heading into a secret meeting with Trump in which you can't discuss what happened, is going to do nothing for the media's completely shot credibility.
It also gives Trump full control in telling the media, when and where to show up and what they can or cannot say.
The media once again got played by Trump and they continue to give into his antics.
