Motown Reporter Out after N-Word Controversy
/Yesterday, FTVLive told you that community activist were asking for a boycott of WDIV in Detroit, after word surfaced that a Reporter had dropped the N-word in the newsroom.
It appears that WDIV was trying to keep the controversy quiet, but crosstown station WJBK reported the story, without naming the Reporter.
Later in the day, a memo went out to the staff at WDIV saying that Reporter Lauren Podell had "resigned" from the station.
The memo came from WDIV GM Marla Drutz. It read as follows:
I wanted to let you know that Lauren Podell has resigned from WDIV effective immediately. Lauren asked me to convey the following: “During my time at WDIV I have created many friendships that I will continue to cherish”. If you receive any media inquiries please forward them to Jamie or me. Thanks.
Podell used the word in conversation with a co-worker and the news got out around the office this week. She reportedly said “I’m tired of reporting on these niggers killing each other in Detroit.”
If this is really what this woman said, then TV news is much better off without her in it.
Just saying....
