San Antonio GM Looks for the Leak to FTVLive
Yesterday, FTVLive told you how WOAI/KABB GM John Seabers tried to put a stop to the station employees helping out some underprivileged kids, by donating some school supplies to them.
The station employees were trying to put together a drive to gather up the supplies, which they would hand out to the children.
Seabers did not think that a small project like this was worth the time and did not do enough to promote the station.
He sent this email to the staff about their efforts to help some poor kids:
After FTVLive's story yesterday, station sources us that Seabers, "is on a rage to find out who leaked the memo and info on school supplies is mad again."
He had one of his minions, Assistant News Director Keith McMahan send out this memo about the leak. Thanks to all 25 of you that shared this with FTVLive:
Word is that Seabers has been known to go to Sinclair's IT department and asked them to track emails that are sent and shared through the station accounts.
This is a TV station based in San Antonio, Texas, which is located in the United States, but it sounds more like something you might see in D̶o̶n̶a̶l̶d̶ ̶T̶r̶u̶m̶p̶'̶s̶Valdimir Putin's Russia.
Here's a thought, manage your people better, treat them with respect and don't snoop on them like the KGB. You might be surprised how much better station morale is, people will be happier and you in turn will have a better product.
As for Keith McMahan saying that FTVLive "is designed to and predicated" on tearing down the industry? You're wrong Keith! FTVLive is designed to and predicated to exposing the bad people and companies in this industry and trying to highlight the decent people.
Just yesterday, FTVLive pointed our readers to a very well done story by the Scripps station in Phoenix. Earlier this week, we talked about ABC's George Stephanopoulos' "perfect" and well done interview with Donald Trump. FTVLive often praises people for a job well done and we have stacks of email from people thanking us for doing so.
But, we are also going to point out the absurdly of some of the people in which the broadcast industry would do much better without.
Do you really think threatening people in an email Keith, is good management? Is your goal in this business to lead by intimidation? Or were you just doing the dirty work for a GM that has lost the respect of his staff and manages by threats?
Keith, there is still a chance for you. Start treating people like people, be the boss, but be nice and you will be surprised at how well it works.
As for John Seabers....well.... that ship has sailed.
