Former Anchor to Run for Office
Back in May, FTVLive told you that WROC Anchor Rachel Barnhart was signing off and would likely run for political office.
It was one of the worst-kept secrets in Rochester (NY) politics and Television and now it's official.
Less than 2 weeks after signing off from the station, Barnhart confirmed that she sent paperwork to the state Board of Elections on Monday to form a campaign committee to run for the 138th Assembly District.
She plans to challenge incumbent Assemblyman Harry Bronson, D-Rochester, in a primary election on Sept. 13.
“I just left my job less than two weeks ago and I was forbidden to participate in political activity as a journalist, so there’s an incredible amount of work to do to launch a campaign,” she told the Democrat and Chronicle.
FTVLive told you back in March that Barnhart was considering a political run, so we think maybe now of the political work was already getting done in the background.
Just saying....
