Reporter's DUI Trial Starts
Back in November, FTVLive told you that WMUR Reporter Audrey Cox was indicted on aggravated DWI charges.
Now, after a long delay, her trial is getting started.
SeacoastOnline reports that jury selection took place on Monday and the Reporter who will go trial this week for allegedly striking a 79-year-old Hampton woman with her car while driving under the influence.
Arguments should begin Today in the trial in Rockingham Superior Court according to Cox’s attorney Andrew Cotrupi.
Cox, faces three Class B felony charges — two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated or operating under the influence of liquor with serious bodily injury and one for reckless conduct.
Cox allegedly struck Sandra Dary at Hampton Beach Sept. 25 in the breakdown lane of Ocean Boulevard near Winnacunnet Road at approximately 7 p.m. At the time, Dary was out walking her 12-year-old poodle. Dary sustained fractures to her foot’s fifth metatarsal and her hip. Dary said in November she would require multiple surgeries.
Cotrupi has said evidence will show alcohol had no part in the accident and that his client is completely innocent.
Cox, a part-time WMUR employee at the time of the accident, was put on leave pending the outcome of the case, the news organization stated in an article on its website at the time. She began working at WMUR in 1994, leaving in 2005 before returning in 2011, according to her bio on the WMUR page.
