From the Big Apple to Cleveland

FTVLive was the FIRST and only to report that WABC Sports Anchor Rob Powers was looking to land a job in Cleveland.

On April 1st, FTVLive wrote:

Word is that WEWS in Cleveland has told Anchor Chris Flanagan that his contract is not being renewed and the station is looking elsewhere for a new Anchor. WEWS has made no comment on Flanagan's future with the station, but look for something soon.

WABC's Powers is said to be pitching for the job and will make the move from sports to news.

When Powers worked in Toledo he did both news and sports, so it's not like news is foreign to him.

On Friday, we were again to tell you FIRST that Powers had been hired at WEWS and that he would be anchoring the news at the station.

Now FTVLive has obtained the internal email that WEWS News Director Jeff Harris sent to the staff:

I’m excited to announce the addition of Rob Powers as anchor at NewsChannel 5.  Rob is coming home to Cleveland to join Danita, Mark and Andy in our 6p and 11p newscasts.  For him, it’s a dream come true.  Rob’s been away from friends and family for too long.  He was raised in Parma Heights and is a graduate of Holy Name.  His folks live in Westlake and his six siblings are scattered across NE Ohio.  Some of you, with good memories, might recognize him from his internship here at the station with Nev Chandler in the late 80s.  He’s a total homer.  Rob comes to us from WABC in New York City where he is Sports Director and news anchor.  Previously, he served in the same rolls in Toledo and Indianapolis.  Rob got his start in Binghamton, NY just after graduating from Eastern Michigan University.   Rob and his family, wife Debbie and sons Jackson (13) and Brendan (11), will be home soon and have their eye on a house in Strongsville (Westside….whatever).   His first day at NewsChannel 5 will be August 1.

Don't worry, now that the press release is out, the other websites should get around to covering the story that FTVLive FIRST broke over 6 weeks ago.
