Melissa Click Needs to Just Go Away
You remember Melissa Click, the University of Missouri Communications Professor that called for "some muscle over here" to try and stop a Journalist from doing his job.
The school did the right thing and fired Click and now she is talking about the entire incident.
In a story in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Click says she was fired because she was white and an easy target.
No, Ms. Click you were fired because you were an asshole and you were caught on camera being an asshole.
"This is all about racial politics," Click says. "I’m a white lady. I’m an easy target."
The media subjected her to withering public scrutiny, she says, making her recognizable wherever she goes. "Batshit Crazy Professor Loses Temper With Student" was the wrong headline, she says. The real story, if you ask her, was "Favorite Professor Fights to Support Black Students on Campus in Dangerous Situation."
But most of us don’t get to write our own headlines. Ms. Click has tried to regain her voice and cast herself as a brave advocate.
"I do not understand the widespread impulse to shame those whose best intentions unfortunately result in imperfect actions," she wrote in The Washington Post last month. "What would our world be like if no one ever took a chance?"
Or maybe a better question Ms. Click, what would this world be like if every person tried to suppress the media from doing their job.
You pity party is now over and it's time for you to go away now.
