Are Phil Griffin's Days Numbered at MSNBC?
Many are surprised that MSNBC boss Phil Griffin has lasted this long.
But now the boss maybe soon bounced at the struggling cable network.
The NY Post says that insiders are wondering when new daytime boss Janelle Rodriguez is going to become the new head of MSNBC — and where MSNBC President Phil Griffin might land next?
Prompting the gossip is Rodriguez’s curious decision to leave CNN and join the lower-rated MSNBC at essentially the same position.
A source says that NBC News Chairman Andy Lack’s two favorite people in are Rodriguez and Noah Oppenheim: “He’s been looking to move them up.”
Oppenheim is currently the top executive in charge of the “Today” show, but perhaps he’s in line for a wider role. Oppenheim has been telling friends he misses California and would like to go back to his entertainment producing roots. Industry tipsters speculate he’d be well positioned to replace current NBC News President Deborah Turness if her contract isn’t renewed.
And what of Griffin? Some wouldn’t be surprised if he lands with former colleague Jeff Zucker at CNN.
Just speculation, of course.
