NBC to Revamp Sunday Today

It looks like Willie Geist star is rising at 30 Rock.

Page Six says that Geist will be the star in a revamped “Sunday Today.” The new show, which airs before “Meet the Press”, won’t be just politics.

One high-level executive told us, “The show will start in early April and will still be ‘Sunday Today,’ but will be more thoughtful and reflective in tone, in fitting with the Sunday morning shows. Even though we are in an election year, Willie’s new show won’t be all politics. It is going to cover pop culture and social trends, but it’s built around Willie’s unique voice and take on the issues.”

It’s a big deal for Geist, who is expected to continue to appear on “Today” and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The move also puts Geist head-to-head with his own father, Bill Geist, who has been a correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning” since 1987. The source added, “In a way he is following in his father’s footsteps.”
