A jury in Florida decided former wrestler Hulk Hogan should get $115 million in damages in his invasion of privacy suit against Gawker.

Hogan, who's real name is Terry Bollea, had asked for $100 million. The jury awarded an additional $15 million; $55 million for economic harm and $60 million for emotional distress. Nick Denton, the founder of Gawker, was found personally liable, as was Albert J. Daulerio, the site's former editor in chief.

The reason this case has been so closely watched in media circles is the profound impact on free press and privacy rights. University of Buffalo law professor Samantha Barbastold The New York Times, "For a jury to say that a celebrity has a right to privacy that outweighs the public's 'right to know' and that a celebrity sex tape is not newsworthy, represents a real shift in American free press law."

Hogan was videotaped having sex with Heather Clem (Now going by the name, Heather Cole), the then wife of his best friend, Bubba the Love Sponge (real name: Todd Alan Clem). Clem invoked his right not to incriminate himself and was not called as a witness.

Gawker says it has already started its appeal.
