Bumped Up in Columbus

New year, new job, same station.

WCMH Morning Anchor Mike Jackson is being bumped up the food chain at the station.

Jackson will get to sleep in and starting Monday will anchor evening newscasts alongside Colleen Marshall.

Jackson replaces Cabot Rea, who retired in December after 30 years at the station, including 23 as co-anchor with Marshall.

Also, Matt Barnes will move from his weekend sports anchor role into Jackson’s previous spot on the weekday morning and mid-day shows. Barnes, a Columbus native, has been with Channel 4 since 2010.

Jackson has been with WCMH since 1994.

“Mike is a leader in the NBC4 newsroom and in this community,” Ken Freedman, NBC4 vice president and general manager, said in a news release. “His news judgment and experience make him the perfect journalist to lead our effort.”

WCMH News Director David Ciliberti said the station now will look to hire a weekend sports anchor to replace Barnes.
