Scripps Station to Add Newscasts

While most stations do a weekend morning newscast, WKBW (Buffalo) has been one of the few that don't.

When the company was owned by Granite, they refused to do a weekend morning newscast, because it cost them too much money.

But, finally that is changing now that Scripps is running the station.  Starting at the end of February, WKBW is tacking on a Weekend morning newscast, anchored by two new members of the news department who arrived from Rochester television stations.

The Buffalo News writes that starting Saturday, Feb. 27, Ali Touhey will anchor and Kaylee Wendt will be the meteorologist on separate hour-long newscasts sandwiched between the 7 a.m. edition of ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Saturday and Sunday.

The 7 Eyewitness News newscasts will air at 6 a.m. and at 8 a.m. on both weekend days.

“Our viewers don’t take weekends off and mornings are a prime time when they need news and information the most,” said WKBW GM Michael Nurse.
