CBS News Exec to Become TV Agent
TV talent agency Bienstock/UTA has hired CBS News executive Crystal Johns as a broadcast news agent.
Johns will represent clients working in network and cable news as well as in top local markets.
“Crystal is an immensely talented executive who brings years of experience in identifying and recruiting exceptional talent to our practice,” said Richard Leibner, co-president and co-founder of Bienstock. “We know Crystal will be a terrific agent, and we’re delighted she has joined our team.”
At CBS News, Johns was the Director of Talent Development and Diversity, where she was responsible for recruiting talent for the Division and for the oversight of employee development and mentoring programs. Johns was the first person to assume this position for CBS News, and in the role she developed partnerships with special interest and journalist groups and was involved in developing special advisory councils for the news division and for CBS Corporation.
Johns joined CBS News in 2006, after serving as coordinating producer for Allen/Nee Productions, where she headed projects for CNN Newsource. Before that, she was the special projects manager for the CBS-owned station WJZ-TV in Baltimore. While there, Johns was executive producer for the station's daily live talk show, "People are Talking".
Previously, Johns served as executive producer and producer for "Good Day", a talk show at WCVB-TV in Boston. Prior to that, she was a producer and booker for WJZ-TV's "People are Talking with Oprah Winfrey and Richard Sher."
Johns is the recipient of numerous Emmy and National Association of Black Journalists awards. She is a member of several media organizations and was selected to be a McCormick Foundation Fellow.
