Sweeping Up in Orlando
WFTV in Orlando came out the big winner in the May book.
The Orlando Sentinel writes that WFTV’s dominance was evident across the board and reflected the success of its news coverage and promotion. WFTV was way out in front in early morning, at noon, in early evening and at 11 p.m.
WFTV said it drew 47 percent of the 25-to-54 audience for all newscasts to WESH’s 24 percent, WKMG-Channel 6’s 16 percent and WOFL-Channel 35’s 13 percent.
At 6 p.m. WFTV averaged 34,891 viewers to WESH’s 18,808, WKMG’s 9,127 and WOFL’s 6,380. (The Sentinel has a content-sharing agreement with WOFL.)
WFTV had major help from ABC, whose “Dancing With the Stars,” “Scandal” and “Modern Family” helped make the network first in prime time locally across all counts. The CBS lineup on WKMG was a close second in total viewers.
At 11 p.m. Monday through Sunday, WFTV averaged 33,000 viewers to NBC affiliate WESH’s 21,244 and WKMG’s 15,324. With a Monday-Friday 11 p.m. news, Fox-owned WOFL averaged 9,514.
The best news for WOFL was its first-place finish at 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday. WOFL averaged 11,274 viewers in the age group. The half-hour WESH news on sister station WKCF-Channel 18 brought in 9,830. The hour WFTV news on sister station WRDQ-Channel 27 averaged 9,786, but in the 10 p.m. half-hour, WRDQ actually edged WOFL.
