Group Petitions DC Station to Fire Reporter
An anti-gun group wants WTTG in DC to fire Reporter Emily Miller.
To show that they are serious, 'The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence' delivered a petition Tuesday to WTTG's General Manager Patrick Paolini demanding the station to fire Miller.
Miller has made speeches and written a book about her views on the Second Amendment and rights as a gun owner.
“If she wants to be a pundit or an advocate, she has every right to do so, but we don’t believe a journalist should be using that position to advocate a personal agenda that is very distasteful to residents in this area,” Ladd Everitt, director of communications for the coalition said.
Survivors of gun violence Eddie Weingart and Lori Haas spoke at the protest outside the station.
Haas’ daughter, Emily, was shot twice in the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre, but survived. Since then, Haas has become a vocal advocate for gun safety laws.
“I find it appalling. Just unacceptable for a reporter who’s number one goal is impartiality is an advocate for the gun rights groups she speaks for,” Haas said.
So far the station has not commented on the petition that had over 6,000 signatures.
