Suspect Arrested in the Shooting of San Diego Sports Anchor
FTVLive FIRST told you that KFMB Sports Anchor Kyle Kraska has been shot near his home.
The San Diego Police Department received reports of a shooting in the 12000 block of Avonette Court shortly after 3 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found neighbors -- including a nurse -- giving aid to Kraska, who was then transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital.
The incident began when shots were fired into the rear window of Kraska's Mercedes. His car then appeared to pull out of his driveway and the confrontation spilled into the street in front of Kraska's home. At that time, another round of gunshots were heard.
Police say that the suspect, Mike Montana then took off in a white van. Late yesterday evening, police located Montana, who surrendered to authorities after a standoff in El Cajon just before 10 p.m.
The surrounding homes around the suspect's neighborhood were evacuated during the standoff. Montana was wearing jeans, a dark sweatshirt and a beanie as he surrendered with his hands up to SWAT officers.
Doctors say that Kraska suffered gunshot wounds to his leg and the left side of his stomach.
KFMB reported last night that Kraska was out of surgery, and his prognosis was good.
