Fox News Tops Shooting Coverage
It used to be, when big news broke, people automatically went to CNN.
That doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
When 14 people were murdered and over 20 more were injured in San Bernardino, viewers tuning to cable news, went to Fox News.
According to Nielsen, on the day of the shooting, FNC averaged 4,046,000 in total viewers, beating CNN and MSNBC combined during the 3PM-1AM/ET hours.
In primetime FNC averaged 5.1 million viewers and 1.4 million in the key A25-54 demo, marking the highest-rated primetime viewership of the year (excluding FNC’s debate on August 6th).
The previous high was 11/13, the night of the Paris attacks. Primetime was up triple-digits in both categories, up 137% in total viewers and up 240% in the key demo compared to same day last year.
Fox Business Network, which also covered the shooting also pulled some on their biggest numbers.
While CNBC went to taped programming at 7pm with a repeat of Jay Leno’s Garage, FBN’s Lou Dobbs hosted a special edition of Lou Dobbs Tonight which also topped CNBC in total viewers 199,000 vs. 165,000.
