Tampa Reporter Returns to the Rouge
They say you can't go home again, but Michael Shingleton is out to prove that is wrong.
Shingleton is returning to WBRZ(Baton Rouge) to take over the main Anchor gig.
Shingleton, who left Baton Rouge in November 2013 to become a reporter with WTVT in Tampa, will serve as a co-anchor with Sylvia Weatherspoon for the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts, beginning Jan. 4.
He replaces longtime WBRZ co-anchor Michael Marsh, who is no longer with the station.
Chris Nakamoto, WBRZ’s investigative reporter, also will join Weatherspoon on the anchor desk for the 5 p.m. broadcast.
“Michael and Chris bring extensive experience and are examples of great journalists. They aren’t just anchors who read the daily news, they will continue their relentless passion for investigative reporting, and doing whatever it takes to make this community better. I’m also looking forward to their leadership in the newsroom,” Lee Polowczuk, WBRZ’s news director, said in a statement.
Shingleton, who started working for WBRZ in 2005, is the son of the station’s longtime weatherman, Pat Shingleton.
“Baton Rouge is home. WBRZ has always been home. I’m pumped to take on this leadership role within the newsroom,” Michael Shingleton said. “For me, getting back into our community is a priority, and anchoring alongside such a journalistic veteran and professional like Sylvia truly is a dream come true.”
