Morning Cable News.... CNN Still in Last
CNN has spent millions of dollars trying to come up with a morning show that is relevant in the ratings.
Over the years, CNN has swung and missed as it has retooled the morning show time and time again.
This year, CNN boss Jeff Zucker thought he had the answer when he brought in Alisyn Camerota (the story FIRST reported by FTVLive) and paired her with Chris Cuomo.
So, breaking down the Nielsen numbers for the year, how did CNN do?
The network is still last in the morning news race.
CNN’s New Day averages 359,000 in total viewers, ranking third place in the 6-9AM/ET timeslot behind FNC’s FOX & Friends and MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Additionally, the program ranks #41 on the list of top-rated cable shows for 2015, based on P2+. Morning Joe has defeated New Day for 10 consecutive months in total viewers, from March 2015 to December 2015 to date. Additionally, FOX & Friends First – a 5AM/ET show which airs when HUT levels are lower – delivers a higher yearly average than New Day.
The bright spot for CNN? They are in second place in the demos. Although still far, far behind Fox News.
Here is the number breakdown according to Nielsen:
MORNING PROGRAMS 6-9AM/ET
FNC: 988,000 total viewers (228,000 in 25-54)
CNN: 359,000 total viewers (114,000 in 25-54)
