Anchor's Stepson Has High Demands for TV Interview
A few days ago, FTVLive told you that WCAU Anchor Renee Chenault-Fattah's stepson was found guilty on 22 counts of fraud.
Chenault-Fattah has been off the air since she was her husband, Congressman Chaka Fattah was indicted and she was an unnamed co-conspirter in the case.
Her stepson Chaka "Chip" Fattah Jr. was found guilty of fraud and then talked to his mom's station after the verdict.
But, before talking to WCAU, Fattah had some high demands.
"Send an Uber," he told a WCAU Reporter in a cellphone conversation.
"Make it a 'Black' one," he said, referring to the service's higher-end fleet. "An SUV."
He suggested sending "guys in suits" to escort him from what would surely be a gaggle of cameras waiting outside the courthouse. But most important, the Anchor's stepson son insisted, he wanted an uninterrupted 10- to 15-minute block at the top of the newscast to get his unedited message across.
WCAU did put him on the air with Reporter Harry Hairston and although it was not 10-15 minutes straight, the station did run a number of parts of the interview that easily added up to that time.
"Look, what I know about marketing and my success in business is figuring out the message and getting it out there," Fattah said Friday. "It's not running away from an opportunity to reach millions of people."
Whether or not the media attention he has sought helped him in court, Fattah maintains it won him support in the community.
The day after his conviction, he said, two women stopped and asked to take selfies with him as he bought newspapers with front-page headlines on his trial.
"I'm getting a level of support even now," he said.
He is set to be sentenced Feb 3rd and could be spending years in prison.
But hey, at least he can remember the selfies that he took.
Oh.... and yes, WCAU did send that black SUV to give him a ride to the station.
