Charlotte station Hires Digital Weather Anchor

WSOC in Charlotte has hired a new Digital Weather Anchor.

No...it is not a Weather Anchor made up of pixels, it's an actual person.

The station has hired Christine Rapp, from the CBS affiliate in Colorado Springs, as the new digital weather specialist.

The station says that Rapp will be on the air, but mostly focus on the station’s online and mobile content.

Weather is the No. 1 reason viewers say they come to Channel 9’s newscasts, says news director Julie Szulczewski.

Among Rapp’s duties will be engaging viewers on Facebook and Twitter during weather events.

The station says that Rapp, who starts Monday, has an atmospheric science degree from the University of Missouri – and a dog named Thunder.

Which shows that when someone is hired at a TV station we find out everything, including their dog's name.

But when they get fired? "Oh we don't talk about personal issues."
