Bounced Buffalo Sports Anchor to Resurface as News Anchor in Ohio
Former WIVB (Buffalo) Sports Anchor Steve Vesey is resurfacing as a news Anchor across Lake Erie.
Vesey, who was surprisingly released two months ago from WIVB, is going to WFMJ in his native Youngstown, Ohio as a news Anchor.
The station’s news director, Mona Alexander, confirmed Vesey is switching from anchoring sports to anchoring news. She said he is going to be the morning anchor and reporter at WFMJ in Youngstown.
Alexander said Vesey will anchor the station's weekend morning newscasts on Saturday and Sunday and report stories during the week that will primarily air on the weekend morning shows.
“This is a homecoming for Steve,” wrote Alexander in an email. “He was born and raised here. Both Steve and his wife are from the area so coming back to live, work and raise their family here is something Steve says they are both excited about. We are so happy he’s joining the team. We knew he was the right fit the minute we met him. Steve’s a talented anchor, great story-teller and his sports background fits right in sports-crazy northeast Ohio.”
Vesey, who is a graduate of Ohio University, was an extremely well-liked at WIVB and his departure was upsetting to his colleagues.
