Fox News "Terrorism Expert" Busted for Fraud
Wayne Simmons passed himself off on Fox News as a “former CIA agent,” federal prosecutors say he was just a con artist.
Simmons, who appeared a Fox News a number of times and was usually introduced as a "former CIA Operative" faces over 30 years in prison for after being indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that he lied about his service.
Fox News claims that Simmons "was never a contributor for Fox News," and that he appeared on the network only as a non-paid guest.
Not that really makes it better. Fox News passed him off as an expert and he was not.
But it wasn't only Fox News that Simmons was able to dupe. Gawker writes that Simmons was able to parlay his claims of a career in intelligence into actual government contractor jobs abroad.
He landed a job as a “Human Terrain System Team Leader” for an unnamed government contractor in 2008.
Prosecutors also claim that Simmons defrauded a person out of $125,000 in connection with a bogus real estate investment.
Needless to say, we're guessing that his Fox News appearances are now on hold.
Just guessing...
