Sweeping up in the Big Easy
Reversing an overall downward trend in television ratings in recent years, New Orleans CBS affiliate WWL added audience in every news time slot year-to-year during the May “sweeps” ratings period, which concluded Wednesday (May 22). The only nongainer for the market’s longtime news champ was its noon newscast, which stayed flat compared with its May 2012 performance.
NBC affiliate WDSU also showed year-to-year gains in every newscast but one, 4:30 a.m., where there was a decline.
Fox affiliate WVUE ’s May 2013 performance was up (5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.) and down (8 a.m., noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.) The station’s 5:30 p.m. local newscast repeated its ratings performance of May 2012.
ABC affiliate WGNO showed slight audience growth at 6 a.m., but year-to-year decreases at 5 a.m., 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. The station’s “News With a Twist” broadcasts were up year-to-year
