Photog Hurt after Crashing Live Truck
A News Photographer from WXMI (Grand Rapids) made some news while on his way to cover some news.
The photographer was recovering in a Grand Rapids hospital following a Friday morning crash on U.S. 131.
The station says that as he was driving northbound near the I-196 interchange at around 8:30 a.m., the photographer hit an arrow board traffic sign where a work crew was making an emergency repair to a pothole, Michigan State Police said.
The collision made the live truck he was driving spin out then crash causing extensive damage to the vehicle which pinned him inside. While alert and conscious, he had to be extricated from the truck at the scene before being driven to a Grand Rapids hospital for treatment. The photographer was the sole occupant of the truck and suffered a fracture to his leg.
The crash prompted lane closures in the northbound lanes of U.S. 131 for a couple of hours Friday morning as emergency crews removed him from the vehicle and cleaned up the accident scene.
