Piers Morgan's Ratings are Falling

FTVLive has been giving you the inside scoop on the Jeff Zucker and Erin Burnett dance over the new CNN morning show.

Zucker has grown increasingly frustrated trying to deal with Burnett's Agent John Ferriter from Octagon.

Well another Ferriter client at CNN is Piers Morgan.  Word is out that  “Piers Morgan Tonight” ratings are down 27% in total viewers since its debut on Jan. 17, 2011.

The New York Daily News writes that Morgan admits that when he faces competition from big breaking news stories, there is “nothing you can do” to halt his shrinking audience.

Unlike his battles with NRA supporters, Morgan didn’t come out firing over his disastrous ratings in the last week — when wall-to-wall coverage of the trial for accused killer Jodi Arias and Cannible cop Gilberto Valle on competing news channels siphoned most of his viewers away.

His show, “Piers Morgan Tonight” was at its lowest figure for 2013 after losing over a quarter of its audience last Thursday and Friday.

Just 87,000 viewers in the key 25-54 demographic watched CNN, preferring sister station HLN.

But Morgan reckons the blip is temporary.

“Last week we were producing wonderful television, great TV, and we basically got completely beaten up by HLN doing wall-to-wall Jodi Arias trial and the cannibal cop killer stuff as well,” Morgan said at the annual Los Angeles PaleyFest event.

“They just destroyed our audience for a few days, exactly the way they did when the Casey Anthony trial was on, and there is nothing you can do about it,” said Morgan. “It is like a tsunami blasting over you — and there is nothing you can do about it.”
