News Director Retires
As the headline above says, a News Director Retired.
You don't see that often, more often than not, News Directors leave for other stations or they often get fired. But here is the rare story of a News Director that really did Retire.
Dennis Smith has retired after nearly 24 years as news director at Jackson (Miss.) television station WLBT-Channel 3.
Smith spent 35 years at WLBT and 45 years in television news. His retirement took effect Thursday.
Smith began his career at WJTV-Channel 12 in Jackson and joined the staff at WLBT in 1974. He moved on to jobs in Louisiana — first at KATC in Lafayette, La., and then at WWL in New Orleans.
He returned to WLBT in 1984 as a reporter and became news director in 1989.
