Back in December, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson was excited that CNN was planning on showing the city as part of the network’s New Year’s Eve coverage.

“Austin’s New Year is back and bigger than ever, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate at Auditorium Shores,” Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said in a press release. “This City is no stranger to hosting world class events, so it’s no surprise CNN is returning to count down to the new year in the Live Music Capital of the World.”

But as the New Year hit in the Central Time Zone, CNN missed ringing in the New Year. As the New Year rang in, the CNN hosts were talking about food and missed the strike of midnight.

Viewers weren’t happy.
