No surprise that former TV executive Hank Price came out against the FTC banning non-competes.

Price has always been a cheerleader for the mega TV corporations that have made millions off the backs of the employees.

Price writes, “… it will be a kick in the teeth to television stations nationwide. The decision also has the potential to lower anchor and reporter salaries, especially in larger markets.”

Bullshit! That’s my answer to that.

Look at Salt Lake City as an example. Utah banned non-competes many of those employed at Sinclair’s KUTV left the station and crossed the street, mainly to KSL.

The people who left KUTV made more money when they went to KSL.

“I was trapped. I didn’t want to leave Salt Lake, but I couldn’t take a job at another station in town,” said one KUTV employee to FTVLive before the ban on non-competes.

Now, the former Sinclair employee says they make much more money and are much happier at the new station.

Hank Price will blow with whatever wind is coming from the big media companies.

Make no mistake, the FTC ban is a big win for the people working in the newsroom.
