The Death of OJ
For better or worse, OJ Simpson was one of the biggest stories of the 90’s.
For me, Simpson entered my life a number of times.
When I was a little kid, OJ Simpson played for the Buffalo Bills and my family was season ticket holders. I watched Simpson run for 2,003 yeards in a single (14 game) season.
As a kid, I went to a number of events in which Simspon made an appearance. I got his autograph many times as a kid.
Back in June of 1994, I stood in front of 875 South Bundy in Brentwood, California. I was there to cover a double homicide.
I will never forget pulling up to that address, I was shocked at the amount of blood on the walkway up to the house. Working for years in TV news and spending many of them as a news photographer, I have seen a lot of blood.
The blood was thick and it had just flowed down the front walkway of this residence.
That thick blood came from two people, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.
OJ Simpson was arrested and charged with killing the two.
Later, I was working at WSVN in Miami where we covered the OJ Simpson trial wall to wall.
I watched the not guilty verdict being read.
Yesterday, I learned that Simpson had died at 76 years old.
My path in life, crossed with OJ simpson a number of times over the decades.
He was my first real-life hero as a kid, and later standing on Bundy Drive, I realized to never make anyone a hero.
It was a life lesson learned….
