There is an old saying in TV news, “Don’t get awed by the players.”

It is your job to cover athletes and famous people. You don’t gush over them and act star-struck.

An example of what not to do is from WPRI’s Kayla Fish.

Jon Rahm is the Spanish golfer who recently left the PGA Tour to go to the Saudi-backed LIV golf tour.

LIV is backed by the Saudi Arabian government, which killed Journalist Jamal Khashoggi and has been accused of a number of human rights violations.

I wonder if Fish asked Rahm about that when she spoke with him.

I’m guessing the answer was no, but probably because she was so excited.
