News from 100 Miles Away
FTVLive was the FIRST to tell you that Gray had made some deep cuts to their smaller market stations, including KEYC (Mankato, Minnesota), where nearly half the news staff bounced.
Gray cut a number of KEYC’s newscasts, and Monday, they tried pissing in the viewers’ ears and told them it was raining.
On KEYC’s website, the station posted this message:
“Our KEYC viewers will be noticing some changes to our Morning, Noon and Weekend newscasts.
Beginning this week, Morning News Now will originate from our sister station, KTTC in Rochester. Viewers in both Rochester and Mankato will now see a regionalized morning and noon newscast that prioritizes local First Alert Weather forecasts, overnight breaking news, and important information from our respective communities. As always, these newscasts will also include news that helps you to stay on top of what’s happening in your state and around the country.
Rest assured, KEYC journalists and meteorologists will be working closely with their counterparts at KTTC daily to continue providing important local content in these newscasts, and around the clock on our apps and digital platforms.”
KTTC is about 100 miles from KEYC. This means that viewers in Mankato and Rochester will get a watered-down newscast. Viewers will be offered up stories and news from 100 miles away in a market that they likely don’t care about.
This is all done so Gray can pad their pockets and bring in more money by offering an inferior product.
