A Gray Employee Vents
Here is an email from a Gray TV employee who has grown frustrated with the company.
Email:
All we hear from the execs at Gray is how they value the culture of the company and how great everything is going. If you read the corporate emails they make this company sound like THE place to be.
What they did Friday was disgraceful. Firing people and walking them out without the opportunity to even gather their belongings is cruel.
We’ve had movie studio construction updates rammed down our throats for years now with this billion dollar facility in Atlanta. We had no idea that this same company, made out to be so prosperous, was in the process of destroying meaningful local
TV stations.
The whole “minimum pay” was a charade, a publicity stunt. They knew it wouldn’t be sustainable while keeping executive salaries ridiculously high and while paying for all of this new stuff in Atlanta.
Companies like Gray are destroying journalism in smaller communities. This opens the door for rampant corruption in political circles. These newsrooms serve a purpose.
Forgive me if I don’t want to hear the “this is a great company” bullshit anymore. Its not. The good of the Raycom merger has worn off, and this company is back to its true colors from days of old. It may be even worse.
We’re disappointed in Gray.
