Scripps Names VP of the Almost Defunct Scripps News
Back in September, Scripps announced that they were ending Scripps News. Many Scripps News employees were told that they were losing their jobs. Kate O’Brien, the President of Scripps News was also kicked to the curb.
Now, Scripps has sent out a press release, saying that they have hired Matt Simon as the new vice president of….wait for it….. Scripps News.
Yes, Scripps News has been cut to the bare bones, but for some reason, they still need a VP to oversee the carcass of what is left.
Scripps says that Simon will report to Dean Littleton, senior vice president of Local Media, to execute “the content strategy for Scripps’ local and national news teams.”
“Matt has been a key member of the Scripps News leadership team over the last six years – overseeing several award-winning productions, reimagining primetime programming and leading joint reporting initiatives between our national and local teams,” Littleton said. “I look forward to working alongside Matt to deepen the integration between Scripps News and Local Media.”
I don’t know why anyone would want this job. But, it does show me why Scripps is in financial trouble.
