More Transparency...

Like California and Colorado, New York has added the law as well.

Companies posting job openings in New York are now required to post what the job pays.

California and Colorado have had this law on the books for some time. FTVLive has caught a number of broadcast companies violating the law and we have called them out. They have complied after the stories were posted to FTVLive.

BTW- Here is a job posting from Scripps for an EP opening at KGTV (SanDiego); it violates the law as it does not have the salary figure posted.

This is a law we are in favor of, and we would love to see it go nationwide.

With guidelines, many have seen firsthand just how low TV news pays.

Look at this job for a Producer at KKTV in Colorado Springs.

Here are the requirements. See if you can guess what the salary starts at?

KKTV is seeking a News Producer who can produce, plan, and manage news broadcasts from start to finish. The Producer must be able to produce solid, accurate, informative news stories in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • ️ Must be able to manage the TV news broadcast, coordinate with production team and oversee the order of the news broadcast.

  • ️ Work with news team to decide on what stories to produce and report.

Work closely with news anchors to produce and execute clear information and/or news stories to the viewer.

  • ️ Contribute content to KKTV.com and other associated digital products.

  • ️ Contribute story ideas and content on a daily basis as well as special assignments and long-range planning.

  • ️ Assist other producers as well as fill in on all news broadcasts.

  • ️ Lead newscast meeting.

  • ️ Ability to quickly recognize and organize stories for the upcoming new broadcast.

  • ️ Review, edit, and approve stories for broadcasts submitted by news reporters with speed and accuracy.

The salary starts at $38,000.

To put that in perspective, yesterday I had lunch at Panda Express where a manager job pays $100,000.
