One of the Best in Chicago TV

If you ask us, he never got the credit he deserved, but Corey McPherrin was one of the best TV personalities in Chicago broadcast history.

I think McPherrin never got due credit, because he never worked at a frontline station.

For years, he was the Sports Anchor at WBBM, the CBS O&O. The problem was, WBBM was the dog station in the ratings. ABC’s WLS was and is the blowtorch of Chicago, NBC’s WMAQ took up the second spot and WBBM just got scraps.

But, McPherrin was still a joy to watch. He covered the Bulls as they were in dynasty mode and always delivered sports with true professionalism.

McPherrin left WBBM and crossed the street to The Firm’s WFLD. If WBBM was the dog station of the market, WFLD was the dog poop of Chicago.

The often 5th place station in the news ratings, meant that McPherrin was again never getting his due.

The Fox station saw his talent and moved him from the sports desk to the news desk and that is where McPherrin is today.

Back in the 80’s, McPherrin did work for WABC in New York and was a up and coming star that showed just how good he was. That landed him in Chicago, but he only got to work at “also rans” in the Windy City.

But now, after a 46 year run in TV news, Corey McPherrin is going to retire. He was one of the best, but he never got the credit for being so.
