Byron Allen Wants Tegna
In talking to NPR, Allen Media head Byron Allen says that he is still very interested in trying to buy Tegna.
Allen made a play for Tegna before Soo Kim and Standard General came in with a better offer.
The FCC stonewalled Kim until his financing fell through and the Standard General/Tegna deal died on the vine.
Some believe that Allen played a part in making the dead go sour and now he’s saying he is still interested in Tegna.
“Tegna is a phenomenal company. It's the largest portfolio of ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates around the country. They do extremely well in local news, and local news is very important to me. This is an asset that we're very interested in. We're in that space. It is a phenomenal category for us to be in. We love and appreciate local news. It matters, and we are very focused on being No. 1 in the news space,” Allen told NPR.
