Tanya Black, a long-standing news executive at WJZ-TV, has been appointed as the Vice President and News Director of the CBS-owned station in Baltimore, along with the CBS News Baltimore streaming channel and CBSBaltimore.com. The announcement was made today by Kathy Hostetter, President and General Manager of CBS Baltimore.
Black, a native of the Baltimore area, brings over 30 years of experience to her new role. She has dedicated her entire career to WJZ-TV and has held various positions within the organization. Most recently, Black served as the station's Director of Community Impact since January 2022. Prior to that, she spent 22 years as the Managing Editor of the WJZ News department. Her career at WJZ-TV began as an Assignment Editor and steadily advanced to the positions of Assignment Manager and Managing Editor.
In her capacity as the Director of Community Impact, Black has been instrumental in ensuring that CBS News Baltimore's content positively impacts the communities served by WJZ-TV and brings about changes that improve local neighborhoods. She has also played a key role in cultivating and strengthening the station's relationships with community groups. Black's efforts have led to the establishment of several new local partnerships, including a five-year deal with Baltimore City, making CBS Baltimore the media sponsor of AFRAM, the nation's largest African American family music and arts festival. The partnership's inaugural year in 2022 saw an impressive turnout of over 400,000 attendees over the two-day event.
