We Wish Him Well in His Future Endeavors
Tegna’s KPNX (Phoenix) has parted ways with Anchor Scott McDonnell.
McDonnell, formerly anchored "Today in AZ" on KPNX, he has left the station after a series of reassignments that generated controversy among viewers. McDonnell's departure follows the recent hiring of Allison Rodriguez, who began co-hosting the morning show on Monday alongside Emily Pritchard.
In April, 12 KPNX announced the hiring of Rodriguez and revealed plans for McDonnell to join Tram Mai on the afternoon show. However, this pairing never materialized, leading to speculation about McDonnell's future with the station. McDonnell, who joined 12 News in November of 2021 after a stint in Boston, did not respond to requests for comment regarding the situation.
The news of McDonnell's departure was confirmed by Ivan Hernandez, the news director at 12 News, who stated, "Scott McDonnell is no longer with 12 News. We appreciate Scott's contributions to the station and wish him well in his future endeavors."
The exact reasons behind McDonnell's departure and the circumstances surrounding the reassignment controversy remain undisclosed.
