It’s like hearing about the death of a longtime friend.

Paramount Global said that they pulled the plug on MTV News.

MTV News was a cable television staple from the late 1980’s through the 2000’s that Gen-Xers and older millennials watched for the latest music news.

MTV News was pop music culture and brought news and politics to young audiences long before the internet.

"This is a tough yet important strategic realignment of our group," said Showtime/MTV Entertainment President Chris McCarthy wrote. "Through the elimination of some units and by streamlining others, we will be able to reduce costs and create a more effective approach to our business as we move forward."

Another news operation is dead due to cost-saving measures.
