This is when the media really needed to get it right but did not.

The Tennessee statehouse was holding a vote to expel 3 Democratic legislators who joined a gun control protest that halted legislative proceedings last week.

The House of Representatives voted 72-25 to expel Justin Jones, who led demonstrators in chants from the floor.

He was joined in the protest by two other Democratic lawmakers, Justin Pearson and Gloria Johnson, who also faced expulsion votes.

WKRN appeared to be more worried about getting the results fast instead of getting them right.

The station’s lower third claimed that Gloria Johnson had been expelled.

There was just one problem.

The resolution to expel Johnson fell one vote short of the required two-thirds majority. The margin was 65-30.

Johnson was not expelled.

The public has very little trust in the media and when you get facts wrong, especially in a story being watched so closely, it hurts Journalists everywhere.

WKRN should do better.
