Scott,
My father who is a retired high school principal in his late 70s got sucked into the fox news/trump vortex and now is all about newsnation because he discovered it after watching the blue bloods reruns. I don't know what's worst the fact that I used to work in tv news and that he's so in the tank for trump due to fox news he doesn't believe one thing I say or the fact that he thinks newsnation is an upgrade. I got youtube tv and canceled his cable to share an account with him to save money. I realized after a few months of sharing the same account I can use the algorithm to help keep him from watching both at a lesser rate by mixing in scripps news and watching other things so youtube doesn't keep feeding him it. I shouldn't have to do that.
Does anyone at either network (even MSNBC) understand how much damage they do on daily basis that I a former tv producer have to use youtube tv at a different house to encourage his viewing habits without him knowing?! After 8 years this is what it's come too. He used to be an open minded former teacher and lover of life who is now a scared old white man who thinks this imaginary woke mob is going to come for him and that crime is everywhere. There's gotta be people who dreamt of working in tv news who work at these networks who must hate themselves at night for doing this to boomers. I know you have to pay the bills but get a backbone and do better. The only audience cable news has left is old people and this is what your doing to them.
These next two emails are responding an item in the FTVLive Free Newsletter “Live From the Bunker.” If was about who are your real friends in the newsroom. If you haven’t signed up for our email newsletter, you can do so here.
Scott:
Your post about newsroom “friends” is spot on. I was fired from a top 30 market years ago. At the time, I thought most of my staffers were friends. Well, only three or four kept in contact after that, we even went to lunch together. The others, zip, zilch, nothing after an initial email calling my firing BS and saying they were sorry.
It is ironic that several have contacted me-to help them find a job, be a reference or give career advice.
Hey Scott,
Enjoy your work, don't always agree on your take, but overall I am informed and entertained.
Spot on with the Friends story in the Bunker. I do have a couple of life long friends from this business, but when I changed stations within the market 9 years ago, I was stunned how many "friends" I lost. People I did life with for 20-25 years dropped me quickly. It was really strange and at first I took it personally. But thru the years, I grew to realize it was a them issue and not me.
So in the twilight of my career I cherish a few folks, but look forward to spending my time with my true friends outside the world of tv news.

Big props to you with all your detailed pieces on the FOX and Dominion trial that never happened.
The price tag of being arguably the worst news source in American history is $787.5 million. To all people in local news out there that watch Fox News and believe they are in the right and/or believe that Fox News' first amendment rights were violated... it is time to evaluate your beliefs and your understanding of what the 1st actually means. The 1st amendment is something to protect and stand by. This case was not it because their rights were not violated.
Up next: among those on the hook for a Dominion lawsuit is people like Mike Lindell. A person highlighted here before. A rightwing extremist that has created some fringe news sources as well. A person that has been directly involved with local politicians that want to change voting procedures in states like: Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, California, Colorado, etc.
Will he end up settling too? With what I have seen and heard from him, there is nothing that suggests he will. He may go down with the ship. Fox News can and did since they have the money in the bank to do so. But for Mike, it may be irrelevant because his finances are far less than what FOX News has.
Side note: it is disgusting how much money Fox News makes.
On another note, many of you emailed to give me advice about my knee pain after I decided to run a marathon on a knee with a torn meniscus. Not my brightest move.
But I do want to thank the scores of you that reached out. My knee still hurts and my heart feels more full.
Thanks again.
