News Nation Goes 24/7
It was a goal of Nexstar from the first day they launched their cable news channel News Nation.
Nexstar announced that NN is moving to a 24/7 news operation on the weekdays.
The network will launch a new live four-hour weekday programming block called NewsNation Now on Monday.
It will air from 1-5 PM each weekday.
“I couldn’t be more proud of what we have accomplished in just a little over two and half years,” said Sean Compton, president of Nexstar Networks. “NewsNation’s growth has been fueled by exceptional talent with stellar reputations for high-quality journalism, and by viewers hungry for unbiased news reporting. Becoming a 24-hour news network Monday through Friday positions us well to keep growing our audience by providing them with consistently meaningful news coverage.”
While it makes for a good sound bite, the truth is that News Nation’s ratings have been anything but stellar.
The network has relied on network castoffs and retreads, and it isn’t bringing in viewers.
We’ll have to wait and see if moving to 24/7 will help in that area.
