Killing The Golden Goose

TV stations continue to see their viewership decline. They also continue to raise cable rates which leads to more and more people cutting the cord.

I saw a post from a local TV anchor that tweeted out that his cable bill has just gotten too high, and he has decided to cut the cord and drop cable.

If someone that works in the business is dropping cable, can you really blame the average viewer?

But guess what?

Media companies continue to demand more money from providers, and that drives the cost even higher.

A study shows that carriage fees from distributors rose 3% to $14.46 billion in 2022.

Media companies look at retransmission fees like the goose that lays the golden eggs.

The problem is, they’re killing the goose and don’t seem to understand that.

I feel like I’m watching a really bad car wreck happening in slow motion and the driver has no clue what’s about to happen.

They can’t be this stupid, can they?
