I Asked Google's Bard

Google released its AI assistant last week, and I was offered an invitation to use Bard (which is the AI’s name).

One of the first questions I asked Bard was why people are leaving TV news for other jobs outside of broadcasting.

This was the AI’s reply which pretty much nailed it:

The decline of TV news is a well-documented phenomenon. In recent years, there has been a steady decline in the number of people watching TV news, as well as the number of people working in TV news. This decline is due to a number of factors, including the rise of online news, the decline of traditional media, and the changing habits of the younger generation.

One of the main reasons why people are leaving TV news is because they are finding other jobs that are more fulfilling and rewarding. Many people who work in TV news feel that they are not making a difference in the world, and that their work is not as important as it used to be. They are also frustrated by the low pay and long hours of the job.

Another reason why people are leaving TV news is because they are not able to keep up with the demands of the job. TV news is a fast-paced and ever-changing industry, and it can be difficult to keep up with the latest news and trends. Many people find that they are not able to keep up with the demands of the job, and they decide to leave.

The decline of TV news is a serious problem, as it means that there are fewer people who are informed about the news. It also means that there are fewer people who are able to hold the powerful accountable. The decline of TV news is a problem that needs to be addressed, and it is up to all of us to find ways to make TV news relevant again.

Here are some ways to make TV news relevant again:

  • Focus on local news. Local news is more relevant to people's lives than national or international news. By focusing on local news, TV news can connect with people on a deeper level.

  • Be more objective. TV news has a reputation for being biased, and this is one of the reasons why people are turning away from it. By being more objective, TV news can regain the trust of the public.

  • Be more transparent. TV news needs to be more transparent about its sources and its biases. By being more transparent, TV news can build trust with the public.

  • Be more innovative. TV news needs to find new ways to reach people. By being more innovative, TV news can stay relevant in the age of digital media.
