Sinclair Did It Again...
Sinclair has become known for airing questionable content across its stations and has done it once again.
More than a dozen Sinclair television stations ran a sponsored gold investment segment featuring far-right podcaster Stew Peters, an antisemitic conspiracy theorist who has called for the execution of journalists and politicians.
Media Matters reports that at least 16 Sinclair-affiliated stations ran the two-minute segment between May and September, most recently was last Thursday on KATV’s Good Morning Arkansas.
The segment featured the racist Peters and WJLA (DC) meteorologist Brian van de Graaff.
The segment began with van de Graaff touting Peters’ credentials, stating that he is a “former bounty hunter and host of The Stew Peter Show. Stew is also the producer of the film Died Suddenly, which was viewed by over 30 million people worldwide.”
The segment then transitioned into treating Peters as a purported financial expert, including van de Graaff asking for his “thoughts on the recent bank bailouts and frail financial system.” Peters responded that when it comes to savings, “the only answer is to invest in precious metals, physical gold and physical silver,” and viewers should do it through Goldco, the segment’s sponsor.
After being called out, Sinclair issued this statement to Media Matters, “We were not aware of the association and are reviewing our internal policies on sponsored content. The segment in question is no longer on our air.”
FTVLive calls bullshit. You’re telling me that no one involved in this production knew about Peters and his views?
I don’t buy that.
Also, the fact that you whore out the Met at your biggest station is disgusting.
