Break a Leg *

The old showbiz saying “break a leg” is meant as good luck.

It doesn’t work the same way in TV news.

In an unusual twist of fate, two prominent Houston media personalities found themselves grappling with leg fractures within a week of each other, leaving their fans and colleagues concerned but hopeful for their swift recoveries.

Daniela Guzman, the beloved anchor of KPRC 2's weekday evening news, shared the unfortunate news with her followers on social media last Saturday. Guzman revealed that she had fractured a bone in her left leg after an accidental fall.

"DARN!! On crutches again! I've had 2 knee surgeries but I've never broken a bone until now," Guzman wrote on her Facebook page, alongside an image of her left leg cocooned in a cast as she exited the hospital on crutches. She added humor to her post, saying, "I tripped and fell last night all by myself! On the road to recovery!" A forehead-slapping emoji punctuated her exasperation.

According to reports from the Houston Chronicle, medical professionals informed Guzman that she had broken the last two metatarsals on her left foot.

Meanwhile, Miya Shay, a prominent reporter from KTRK, faced a similarly unfortunate incident. Shay was discharged from Houston Methodist hospital last Saturday after suffering a leg fracture due to a fall at her home. The severity of her injury became evident when she posted CT scans revealing three broken bones in her right leg.

"Man, the CT scans of my leg make it super clear where the break is. As someone told me (half joking?) if you're going to break something, go big or go home," Shay shared on her X account.

To address the extent of her injury, Shay underwent surgery earlier this week. However, her medical journey is not yet complete as doctors have advised a follow-up operation to ensure a full and proper recovery.

Both Guzman and Shay have received an outpouring of support and well wishes from their dedicated viewers and colleagues. The Houston media community stands behind these resilient individuals, hoping for their speedy return to the news scene.
