Bean Town Photog Needs a Kidney Transplant *
Jared Higginbotham is an integral part of the team at WBZ (Boston), working alongside reporter Kristina Rex and behind the camera for Steve Burton and the sports team.
However, few of his colleagues know that Jared fights a daily battle with kidney disease and is in need of a transplant to survive.
For the past two years, Jared has undergone at-home dialysis for at least eight hours each night. The condition causes lethargy and pain, and at 41 years old, Jared is at a higher risk of mortality while on the transplant list. However, a living donor could not only save his life, but also extend it longer than a deceased donor's kidney, according to Dr. Jeff Cooper, an expert on kidney disease and the transplant process.
The process to become a living donor is largely non-invasive and involves a series of applications and medical appointments, all of which are covered by the transplant program. If a match is found, the surgery itself only lasts around four hours, with a recovery period of about three weeks. The impact of a living donor on the recipient can be life-changing, and Dr. Cooper refers to them as true heroes.
We are hoping that he can find that donor.
