Nexstar Pisses Off Fox Viewers
Fox's new crime anthology drama, Accused, premiered to great success on Sunday night, setting a ratings record for the network and drawing in 8.4 million viewers. However, the ending of the show was marred by a technical error that caused some viewers to miss the resolution of the story.
According to reports, 13 markets were affected by the error, representing about 8% of the country. The Fox affiliates in these markets are owned by Nexstar, and the glitch appears to be a technical issue in that company's feed. Nexstar, which is the largest Fox affiliate group with stations in 39 markets, has issued a statement acknowledging the issue and promising to take steps to prevent it from happening again.
“We had a technical issue [last night] affecting a small number of our Fox stations. It has been addressed and we have taken steps to make sure the issue doesn’t occur again,” Nexstar, which is the largest Fox affiliate group with stations in 39 markets, said in a statement.
“What happened to the ending? The show ended during a commercial,” one person vented online. Added another, “Very disappointing and probably will not watch anymore episodes. Not impressed.” A viewer in Sacramento echoed the sentiment. “Never watch network TV and will never go back. Thanks for ruining a promising show Fox.”
The stations reportedly cut to local commercial at 10:55:45 PM and returned at 10:58:06 PM, missing 2.5 minutes of crucial action when key revelations about the case were revealed. This snafu drew viewers' ire, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment and frustration.
