Gone In B-More
Okay, this one smells a bit fishy to me.
After 50 years of doing the weather at WJZ in Baltimore, Bob Turk is leaving the CBS O&O. Or, maybe we should say he left.
Now, if a guy spends 5 decades on your air, wouldn’t you think that he would be the one to announce that he is retiring during the newscast?
That is not how it went down at WJZ.
Longtime Anchor Denise Koch was brought on set to announce that Bob Turk is retiring. The station said that they will be spending all this week, looking back on Bob’s career and then Turk will sit down with Koch for a taped piece of his goodbye.
Nope. I’m not buying it.
First off, this is TV news and no longtime talent just leaves without milking the goodbye. Also, the November book is right around the corner and this is something that would have played perfect for ratings.
There are rumors inside the station that Turk said or did something that led to a quick exit.
While we can’t confirm this, this retirement is not going down like most.
Even in his posted goodbye on social media, Turk says that this goodbye is very hard for him.
It is a good bet that we will never know why he is leaving right now and so quickly. As you know TV stations are great about demanding transparency from others, but awful at practicing it themselves.
Maybe, maybe, Bob Turk is just leaving on his own and is just ready to call it a day. Maybe not.
But, I have been around this business long enough to say I’m not buying what they are selling. But, that’s just my opinion.
Here is what Turk posted to social media.
